Standing Out
It's always fun to be your authentic self, even if they do run away
Today, I went out with a new friend. It was so cool to make new friends like this, and this could be the start of something new.
We had arranged to meet together after her uni lessons had finished for the day. A nice café. Public place. A good place to meet someone socially for the first time. Ye gods, though, did it rain.
We chatted, and bonded over coffee and cakes. You know how, when people meet socially for the first few times, there’s always a lot of Q&A in the conversations? This was no exception, but it was a pleasure to be able to actually open out and talk about things with one another, realising that we both totally accepted one another right from the get go.
Today was the first day in a long while that I could let myself be my true, authentic self with someone and, not only did she not freak, but she accepted and celebrated my existence.
She told me of her wish to have a new friend. Someone with whom she could talk. Someone who wouldn’t judge. She knew that I was just what she was looking for.
I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. There’s a lot to unpack with this new friend. It’s going to take time.

So wonderful.
