RPGaDay 2023, Day 16
Close your eyes. Make a wish. Count ... to ... three ...
This one’s going to be relatively short.
What game do I wish I owned? A game I haven’t written yet.
I don’t have a title for it. I have a game engine for it, but no title.
Monte Cook speaks of the design process - you must start with the heart. Begin with what the characters are supposed to do.
I want a game where the characters thrive through forming connections. Lots of connections - Allies, Contacts, found family. Your people keep feeding you adventure situations, and you travel to exotic locations to get what they need, only to meet more people while you’re there, and add them to your network.
And they send you off on further adventures.
Another of his posts urges you to set your intentions before actions. The challenges posed of the characters must appeal to the players as much as the characters. The intent, in the context of my game, is to raise awareness to each player that you are not alone. The world contains problems which can be solved, but only if you work with others to solve them.
The game must be flexible enough that I can set it in the modern era, in some historical time period, in a fantasy setting, or in the far future - but the underlying message is pretty much the same. Words are better than swords.
That is the game I wish I had. That, and the author copy in the palm of my hands, and more copies flying off the bookshelves of your local FLGS.
