RPGaDay 2023, Day 14
Two weeks in ...
I’ve not visited many game conventions. There’s little for me to do there, because it’s like visiting a casino without a penny in your pocket. All you can do is watch, and maybe visit the merch tables to see what they might have (more than 75% of the time, it’s miniatures, an experience of which I have zero interest).
I’ll have to go right back in time, to a convention I attended way back, not long into my hobby. I was practically the only person in my town who’d even heard of RPGs. The media hadn’t caught up or anything. But there was a convention in Manchester, so I went there.
What I got was a first edition of the FASA Star Trek roleplaying game - vastly superior to the execrable Modiphius one.
That was, in fact, the second roleplaying game I even bought. And it, too, was a science fiction game. It also fanned a lifelong interest in Star Trek which became a beacon which never died.
I still think I have some of the old supplements. Though mind you, I’ve not dug them up in years.
So that’s my favourite RPG purchase from a convention.
