Day 26 - Superb Screen
#RPGaDay2024
Today’s post, and the posts for almost the rest of this week, is kind of meaningless. A screen can be superb if all it is, is a bunch of cardboard sheets taped together and plastered with crude hand-written tables and notes cribbed from various crucial core rulebooks and sourcebooks.
Objects are not the key element. It’s the players, collaborating to tell stories of heroic adventure on the other side of the screen.
The screen’s not there to keep the Gamemaster’s notes from the players. The GM is not there to scheme and plot the characters’ demise. The screen’s there to keep the Gamemaster’s stuff separate from the players’ dice, documentation and miniatures. Screens are there to help facilitate the GM’s role of telling the story, with the players’ collaboration.
