Day 22 - Notable Non-Player Character
#RPGaDay2024
Turning to Berin Kinsman of Lightspress Media here.
Developing well-rounded supporting characters and antagonists means giving them depth, motivations, and personalities that make them more than just obstacles or background noise. Start by fleshing out their backstories and figuring out what drives them—whether it’s a personal goal, a moral code, or a complicated relationship with the players. Make sure these characters have distinct voices and traits that set them apart, and think about how they might evolve as the story progresses. For antagonists, consider what makes them a serious challenge for the players, but also what might make them relatable or even sympathetic. The best supporting characters and antagonists feel like real people with their own lives and agendas, which can lead to more engaging and emotionally impactful interactions with your players.
