Books
The Lifelong Habit
I’m going to make a confession here.
I’m an absolute bibliophile.
There are more books in my life than people, by an order of magnitude.
They don't look like the contents of the bookshelf above, mind you.
My books are a history of learning. Every book is something I read, and learned, and enjoyed. They come with a memory, a story beyond what lies between the covers, and usually a moment of change. The person I was before reading each book, and the person who put the book away on its shelf, are never the same person.
Each book changes you in its own way. Some give you nothing but an emotional buzz. Others change the whole world you perceive. And still others awaken an internal change which empowers you so much, you are hardly recognisable to those who know you.
But every book leaves a lasting change, and mybooks have shaped my whole life.
Never say that a book has no value. In your hands, the right book can break you, mend you, break you again and remake you into someone with the gift to move continents.
