Amazing Anecdote
#RPGaDay2024
I didn’t tell you about the time I incorporated hypnotic suggestions into the game I ran as Gamesmaster, did I?
There was a convention a short time ago, which was run remotely due to covid restrictions. I had fun with that one, because I had to run the scenario on two successive days.
What I never told the players was that each adventure I ran had the same setting, the same pregens … but the adventures themselves had different themes and different plots.
And both of them used hypnotic language to draw in the players, engaging their imaginations and immersing themselves comprehensively into the setting as deeply as if they were there in the flesh.
Spellcasting felt arcane; combats felt terrifying; and the backdrops from the tall, snowy mountains to the busy streets, felt so realistic.
It felt so good to play both scenarios, but it was fun listening to the players from both sessions when they met later to discuss the game, and realised that each and every single one of them had effectively played their own game. None of them had any kind of shared experience, other than the sensations of being in the setting.
So any time you hear that I’m going to be running a game … you’ll understand that your experience could very well be highly immersive.
